Day Camp CITs and Counselors
Help make Day Camp 2017 amazing! Each year we have incredible people who share their ideas, time and energy to create a fun and welcoming experience for our campers.
Students entering grades 9-12 are invited to consider one of the two possibilities below for volunteering or working at camp this summer. Volunteers and staff spend all day at camp: singing songs, playing Gaga ball, showing off their gimp bracelet skills, and most importantly helping our campers to participate and feel included.
Interested in joining in the fun this summer? There are two ways to help out at camp.
Counselor in Training (CIT)
If you are heading into 9th grade or have never experienced Sanctuary Day Camp before, join us as a Counselor in Training (CIT).
You’ll see a little bit of everything as a CIT. You’ll participate in leadership training activities, assist with the morning rotations (Music and Story, Art, Science, and Games) and help to lead a group of campers through the day’s activities.
CITs are welcome to volunteer for any Day Camp week.
If you are heading into 10th grade and have participated in Sanctuary Day Camp before, either as a volunteer or Leadership Track camper, you can apply to be a counselor.
Counselors are key in making the day camp experience great for everyone! Counselors welcome the campers in the morning, help them navigate the days activities and stay with them until camp closing, monitoring dismissal to parents.
During the morning, you’ll lead your group of 10-12 campers through the morning activity rotations, Music and Story, Art, Science, and Games. You’ll participate with the kids at each station, pitching in and helping out with the activity to help make it successful. You’ll make sure the group stays together, is safe and has fun!
You also may help to lead a particular activity rotation. In this role you’ll stick with one area for the morning, leading the activity for all of the campers as they rotate around camp with their group.
Afternoons will vary each day. You’ll eat lunch with your group, accompany them to the afternoon events and also help with Option Time. All campers will have a chance to pick an activity during Option Time. You may be asked to help on the playground, lead an art activity or play a game with the campers.
Counselors must to be available for the entirety of the first 2 weeks of camp, (weeks of July 10th and 17th) from 8:30am - 3:15pm. They also need to participate in staff training during the weekend of July 8th and 9th.
Counselors will receive a stipend equal to camp tuition for each week they work. We have a limited number of Counselor positions available, so fill out our Counselor Interest Form as soon as possible if you are interested in participating this year! We will be in touch once we receive your Interest From.
